This article examines the development of a health insurance system and raising awareness of the Arkhangelsk region's population regarding its specifics. The author analyzes the development of the health insurance system at the federal and regional levels of social policy and examines its content (compulsory health insurance, voluntary health insurance, and paid medical services). Based on the results of a sociological survey of the Arkhangelsk region's population, an analysis of the region's population's awareness of health insurance as a cultural component of family social security is presented, based on gender and age, with a comparative analysis for 2008 and 2016.
