The article reveals the main features of Russian young people's perceptions of the factors (conditions) that determine the decision to enter into romantic and marital relationships with the aim of creating a family and having children. The leading factors in the structure of these perceptions are young people's personal characteristics and their material wellbeing as instrumental values which most likely determines their readiness to initiate any type of partnership.
