These days we remember the great feat of the peoples of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War.
Each nation, each republic made its invaluable contribution to the common Victory over fascism.
Azerbaijani SSR: more than 700 thousand sons and daughters of the Azerbaijani people participated in military operations against fascism. In the first days of the war alone, more than 40 thousand people in the Azerbaijani SSR applied to military commissariats to be sent to the front, 186,704 people signed up as militiamen.
Armenian SSR: during the war, about 320,000 residents were mobilized on the territory of the Armenian SSR, of which about 300,000 were Armenians. The total number of Armenians - residents of the Soviet Union who participated in the Great Patriotic War was about 600,000 people. Another 100,000 Armenians fought in the foreign armies of the allied countries.
Byelorussian SSR: was the first to take the brunt of Nazi Germany's attacks and managed to give a worthy rebuff to the invader. In total, more than 1.3 million people took part in the frontline confrontation with fascism during the Great Patriotic War.
Kazakh SSR: gave the front 1.2 million soldiers, forming numerous divisions and brigades. During the war, 12 rifle, 4 cavalry divisions, 7 rifle brigades, and about 50 separate regiments and battalions were formed in Kazakhstan.
Kyrgyzstan SSR: sent 363 thousand fighters. From the first days of the war in Kyrgyzstan, a lot of work was done to create military formations in the republic.
RSFSR: called up 21.2 million people. In the autumn of 1941, workers of several autonomous republics - Bashkiria, Kalmykia, Kabardino-Balkaria and Checheno-Ingushetia - made proposals to create independent military formations.
Tajik SSR: about 300 thousand residents of the republic were called up from Tajikistan to the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. They met the enemy with dignity on the western borders of the country.
Uzbek SSR: already in the first months of the war, more than 32 thousand applications were submitted in the Republic from volunteers who wanted to beat the enemy. More than 1.5 million natives of Uzbekistan took part in the hostilities
at the fronts.
Today, despite all the differences, the memory of the Great Victory remains the most important unifying principle for all the peoples of the post-Soviet space. Their common feat will forever remain a symbol of unbreakable friendship and brotherhood.
