December 5 is International Volunteer Day, established by the United Nations in 1985. Its official name is the International Day of Volunteers for Economic and Social Development.
The International Volunteer Day coincides with the Russian Volunteer Day, established by Presidential Decree No. 572 of November 27, 2017.
Volunteer Day is actively celebrated in the CIS countries, especially among young people.
In the CIS, the activities of volunteers are regulated by the Model Law "On Volunteerism".
